Artist Statement: One layer of lacquer is applied to a glass plate, and the next day the hardened coating is lightly polished and another layer is applied. The process is repeated daily until the lacquer is several millimeters thick. For this work, 170 to 180 layers of lacquer were applied to the carved lacquer board. The bold diagonally cut design attempts to visualize the enormous amount of time it took to form the work.
Materials: Urushi, Pigment, Sterling Silver, Stainless Steel
