Artist Statement: Out of Ashes. Iceland does not come to rest: For the third time in two and a half years, the Fagradalsfjall volcano southwest of Reykjavik has erupted. A 200 meter long chasm opened up from which glowing lava rolled. I produce the charcoal myself in a time consuming procedure which enables me to control the carbonization process. By using a process I especially developed the charcoal is stabilized in a way that it can be worked with and the color does not rub off.
Materials: Charcoal from Larch Wood, Red Larch Wood, Oxidized Sterling Silver
